When Drew and Sierra arrived at Joshua House they were frightened and confused, both had been separated from their other siblings when entering foster care. Being the youngest in their families, at just 9 and 10 years old, they had been physically abused, terrorized, and had been forced to watch their father beat their mother through years of domestic violence. You could see the grief and anxiety in their eyes. It was if they had both lived through a war zone.
After only a few months at Joshua House, you could see the calm return to their demeanor. After a few more months, they were playing on the playground, laughing and joyous. They still have moments of sadness, they still experience the anxiety from violence in their lives…but, they are recovering. They are actually beginning to thrive again by improving academically and learning to trust.
