The Mugu District of the state parks covers over 15 miles of coastline with a variety of landscapes from sandy beaches to treacherously rocky cliffs. Bringing some of the most unique beaches to the area, this State Park area draws heavy crowds all year long. Twelve lifeguard towers are placed each summer, staffed full-time from Memorial Day to Labor with additional as-needed staffing year-round. Four lifeguard vehicles patrol from El Matador beach to Pt. Mugu beach, providing support to tower guards, offering mobile coverage to unguarded beaches and responding to highway emergencies.
The Malibu Lifeguards strive for a culture that embodies the traditions that have been passed down by generations of lifeguards who value surfing, bodysurfing, and pursuing improvement.
